Discover more about LOCAL GoGREEN!

The LOCAL GoGREEN provides technical support to Clean Energy Transition (CET) plans and strategies for european municipalities and regions. In a pilot experience, the Clean Energy Transition process will be accelerated in 6 small European municipalities through our project.

LOCAL GoGREEN strengthens the capabilities of local authorities, enabling them to create, execute, and monitor effective short- and medium-term strategies to fast-track the Clean Energy Transition and meet 2030 targets.

The project will create a transnational network for knowledge exchange, fostering the development of sustainable energy communities through capacity building, participatory decision-making, and collaborative efforts in the design and execution of integrated climate and energy plans.

The partners of LOCAL GoGREEN met in Ptuj, Slovenia, in a hybrid meeting (in-person and online) on December 3rd and 4th, hosted by the Local Energy Agency Spodnje Podravje.

The objective was to advance our shared goals of sustainable local development and ecological transition. As part of this meeting, the following activities took place:

  • A series of Train the Trainers sessions designed to empower trainers with essential tools and knowledge to promote sustainable practices across local communities.
  • Development of the 5 main areas of action of our project: Sustainable transportation and E-mobility, Energy efficiency in buildings, Expansion of renewable energy generation, Land use planning for increased carbon absorption, and Waste-to-energy.
  • Progress in Project Management and Coordination updates.
  • Overview of the development of the e-learning platform.
  • Progress on the implementation of Integrated Climate & Energy Plans (ICEPs).
  • Advancements in the Transnational Municipal Cooperation Network (TMN).
  • Establishing strategies for sustainability, replication, and upscaling.
  • A review of communication and dissemination updates.

Moreover, in the months leading up to the meeting, the project partners have been working on the roadmaps and action plans with the pilot municipalities.

After all this coordinated work, we remain focused on LOCAL GoGREEN’s core objectives: establishing a transnational ecosystem for knowledge sharing and driving the development of sustainable energy communities through capacity building, participatory decision-making, and collaborative actions.

Empowering Local Energy Transition:

Introducing LIFE-2023-CET-LOCAL sister projects

sisterprojectsmap.png

The LIFE-CET-LOCAL framework empowers local and regional authorities to advance the clean energy transition, supporting the EU's goal of climate neutrality by 2050 under the European Green Deal. It supports municipalities and regions in meeting the 'Fit for 55' directives, which target energy efficiency and renewable energy policies with 2030 climate targets.

The program provides expert guidance and training to develop sustainable strategies, that enhance energy efficiency, promote renewable energy and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By strengthening organizational capacities and fostering innovation, LIFE-CET-LOCAL supports environmental goals while delivering economic and social benefits like green job creation, improved air quality, and energy security.

LIFE-CET Stakeholders

The LIFE-CET-LOCAL framework is specifically addressed to:

  • Local Authorities: Supporting cities and townships to implement sustainable energy solutions.
  • Regional Governments: Empowering regional bodies to coordinate and enhance energy transition strategies.
  • Municipal Decision-Makers: Offering guidance and resources to those in charge of urban planning and development.
  • Public Sector Stakeholders: Engaging governmental agencies and departments that focus on energy, environment, and infrastructure.

Collaborative Synergy: Exploring LIFE-CET-LOCAL Sister Projects

The Sister Projects within the LIFE-CET-LOCAL framework operate as a unified network that strategically addresses the complexities of energy transition and climate action. This collaborative approach is facilitated through several specialized working groups, each focusing on key aspects of project implementation and knowledge sharing.

The Training & Co-design Working Group lies at the heart of this network, leveraging collective expertise to develop innovative solutions that enhance the capabilities of local and regional authorities and to exchange experiences between the sister projects. This group’s initiatives are vital for sharing best practices and fostering an integrated approach to energy transition strategies.

Separately, the Communication & Dissemination Working Group plays a crucial role in ensuring that the outcomes and valuable insights of the projects are effectively communicated to a broader audience. This group focuses on crafting clear messages and disseminating results, which is essential for raising awareness and influencing stakeholders across various sectors. Additionally, to project specific actions, the working group enables synergies in C&D between the sister projects by joint actions.

Additionally, the Community of Practice Working Group establishes a dynamic platform for ongoing exchange among practitioners from different projects. This group focuses on building a robust network that facilitates the sharing of experiences and continuous learning, which is critical for adapting and improving sustainability practices over time.

Together, these groups form a comprehensive support network that not only propels the specific objectives of each project within the LIFE-CET-LOCAL and other programs, but also aligns with the broader goals of the European Union’s environmental and energy policies. By functioning in tandem, they ensure that innovative practices are not only developed but also effectively implemented and shared, fostering a sustainable approach to climate action across Europe.

Uniting for Impact: A Showcase of LIFE-CET-LOCAL Sister Projects

The LIFE-CET-LOCAL framework brings together a dynamic array of projects, each dedicated to enhancing clean energy transitions at local and regional levels. These initiatives are pivotal in building capacities, sharing knowledge, and fostering sustainable energy practices across Europe.

The LIFE-CET-LOCAL framework encompasses a variety of projects aimed at enhancing clean energy transitions. ENTRACK and LOCAL GoGREEN focus on empowering local authorities to develop and accelerate clean energy plans. RePower the Regions and RECET drive energy transitions in just transition regions and rural Europe, respectively. AT LAST, and Step-WISE offer support and training to local authorities for adopting innovative and integrated energy solutions. NEC Platform and IN-PLAN target national and spatial planning to meet EU energy and climate targets. RENOVERTY and Plan4CET address energy poverty and improve planning at the local level, ensuring comprehensive strategies for sustainable development. Each project contributes uniquely to the overarching goal of a climate-neutral European Union.

Several projects include pilot cases all over Europe to demonstrate their processes.

On 25 September, LOCAL GoGREEN participated, represented by our partner JER,  in the workshop "Clean Energy Transition Planning and Energy Vulnerability," held as part of the Sustainable Places Conference 2024. The workshop brought together LOCAL GoGREEN and five other European projects funded under the LIFE CET Programme framework.

These projects focus on developing tools, methods, and capacity-building programs for Clean Energy Transition Planning and addressing Energy Vulnerability.

During the event, all projects presented their approaches and tools for engaging and supporting local stakeholders at the municipal level.

Additionally, participants exchanged insights on the use of the various tools developed, methods for collecting data from municipalities, and strategies for applying these tools at local, national, and EU levels. The discussion also addressed ways to engage stakeholders in the co-design process through workshops.
